Urban Decay Naked Basics Review and Swatches

Hi Everyone!

A couple of months back I hit a jackpot when I was able to get my hands on two of my most desirable eyeshadow palettes. I mentioned them in my haul post here if you may want to check out what else I got. Neutral shadows never go out of use, rather they are your BFF. On the same note, Urban Decay has the Naked Basics eye shadow palette. I have used this a few times now and I am ready to share my experience with you all!

About The Looks!

The palette comes in Brown-ish taupe color with the name of the brand and the palette written on the top and the bottom has the picture of all the shades in the palette with their names. It also has the shelf life printed there. On one of the sides of the box the ingredients are printed. The palette inside is of the same color as the box but has the velvet finish. The name of the brand and the palette is embossed on it. The back has the shelf life and the net content. The packaging is extremely classy and chic. I really love it. Its sturdy, good quality and travel friendly too. Inside there is a mirror attached to the under side of the lid and it is of really a very good quality. And then there are the six shades in long vertical rectangles with their names printed beneath them. The palette opens and closes with a click, which is a really great in terms of safety of the shadows.

My views and experience with Naked Basics palette!

This palette has a mix of cool and warm toned neutral shades. I like it better than the Basics 2 that had been launched a while ago. That one is more of cool toned shades which might not suit my skin tone. Well if I have spare money I can try that too! Lol 😀

Color – As mentioned before there are six shades in the palette which are  –

  • Venus – A shimmery silver highlighting color
  • Foxy – A warm toned color with yellow undertones
  • Walk of Shame – A cool toned color with pink undertones
  • Naked 2 – A taupe-ish color with some ashy and slight mauve undertones
  • Faint – Is a dark cool toned brown with quite a bit of taupe undertones
  • Crave – A pure black color.

All the colors are absolutely matte except Venus, which is shimmery . I like the color selection, its quite versatile and can be useful for almost every skin tone, from fair to dark. They can be mixed and played in a lot of ways, the best part is their being matte. The palette provides with one highlighting color – Venus. Foxy, Walk of Shame and Naked 2 can be really good as lid colors and Naked 2 can also be a great transition color for many skin tones. The last two, Faint and Crave are great crease colors. You can achieve a simple everyday look as well as a an awesome intense smokey eye make up with this single palette. If you love neutral colors and stay away from bright hues, this is a great choice for you.

Pigmentation – Venus, Faint and Crave are highly pigmented and one or two swipes were good enough for the swatch. You would need to be careful while using Crave (black) as its the most pigmented. Naked 2 is fairly pigmented but is buildable. Foxy and Walk of shame are very light colors and their pigmentation is also quite less as compared to the other colors in the palette. Foxy being the least pigmented of all is a little bit of disappointment. I am supposing that it did not show much on my skin tone, may be it shows better on people with very fair skin.

Texture and Formulation – The texture is really nice, its buttery, spreads evenly, glides on smoothly and blends seamlessly. Had no creasing at all. No complains at all! Love it!

Lasting Power – The shadows last for a really long time. I have worn them for around 8 or 9 hours had they were quite intact. No fading or creasing. Using an eye shadow primer will make the results even better! It will increase the lasting power and the colors will also show up better.

Summary

I am really happy with this palette. It has become my go to palette when I am in a hurry or when I just want some neutral eye make up on. Most of the colors are well pigmented and some are buildable. The color choice is perfect. The palette is versatile and of great quality. I highly recommend this to everyone!
