I always wanted to travel to different places and wanted to cover all the famous or beautiful areas in India! Fortunately, I had been traveling a lot since this October and I had so much to share with you guys from my trip to Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Jodhpur but unfortunately, my other laptop which had all the pictures and vlog footage has crashed. I am trying to recover everything, but I am not sure. It broke my heart, the trip was fantastic and I witnessed some of the most beautiful places which I don’t even have a personal memory. Everything is now only in my mind.
Coming back to the point, I just returned from another short trip and I didn’t want to wait any longer to share everything that I experienced there! I visited McLeodganj, Dalhousie and Khajjiar. So without any delay, I will share my McLeod Ganj Travelogue and OOTD with you all today!
So we had a plan of leaving on Friday afternoon and taking a night halt at Chandigarh, however, due to some urgent work we couldn’t leave until 6:30 pm and this led us into a massive traffic jam! This really bummed us and so we changed our plan and took a night’s halt at Karnal. We refer to GoBibo to look up and book the hotels and the one we liked and preferred to stay in Karnal wasn’t showing up the rooms. So we decided to walk into the hotel. It was The Vivaan. Fortunately, that was the right decision as there were rooms available and we got one too. It was around 10 pm or 10:30 pm.
The Vivaan is on the highway and is a huge property. We couldn’t see much during the night as it was dark, but we could make out it was a good one. The reception was huge and the staff was courteous. The interior of the hotel was decorated for Christmass and it looked beautiful! The room that we got was nice and very neat and clean. There was enough space for the luggage and a chair as well. The room wasn’t very big but was well spaced out. The washroom was also pretty clean and neat. A little more effort could get this hotel into 5-star category.
In the morning we went to its restaurant for the breakfast. The restaurant was huge and had different sections decorated differently. You could choose to sit wherever you wanted according to your preference. We ordered the breakfast and the service was decently timed and nice. The soiled plated were quickly removed and replaced with fresh ones. I kept my outfit as comfortable as possible. I wore my old and comfortable Kraus denims with a tee inside and a pink sweatshirt from Decathalon over it. I don’t really wear makeup when its hard core traveling, only a tinted lip balm was enough!
After the breakfast we got our billing done and left for the rest of the journey towards McLeod Ganj. Somewhere between Mohali and Chandigarh, we spotted some farmers preparing fresh Jaggery on the road side and selling it there and then. This really intrigued us a lot and I love Jaggery, so we stopped at one of them and saw the whole process of the jaggery making. The farm owner was kind enough to give us a free sample of fresh jaggery that was in liquid form and trust me it was super yum! We never tasted anything like that before! So we bought jaggery worth Rs 100/-, it was Rs 60/- per kg.
Then we moved on ahead witnessing the changing landscape and people! We were following the navigator of our car but we didn’t really trust it completely and were constantly comparing the routes with the Google Maps. Even after being so cautious somehow we ended up on a route which goes through some rural areas and the roads were very narrow and most of the parts under construction. We soon realized that it might be the shorter route but not the good one and we did miss the main highway or the main road. We joined the main highway around evening and thereafter the journey was smooth. We reached McLeod Ganj around 7 pm and it was dark by then.
We reached McLeod Ganj around 7 pm and it was dark by then. We had our booking done from goibibo in Fortune Park Moksha Hotel. The hotel was super huge and really beautiful! They had a very nice parking system and dedicated spots. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous! The hotel was decorated with a lot of lights on account of Christmas eve and it looked really beautiful! The security check was also quite nice as all the luggage was scanned under the scanner.
We were escorted to our room by the staff and all the luggage followed by. The room was pretty big and spacious and had a lot of storage space for luggage. There was a minibar, snacks, lounge area and nicely done bed. The room had life-sized mirrors in the room which I really loved. The room’s window faced the valley and we could also see the Yoga/Meditation area and swimming pool from our room window. The view from the room was beautiful! The washroom was roomy and all the supplies and what I loved the most was that there were Biotique products. There was a lotion, body wash, couple of soaps, shampoo, all from Biotique. I recently have developed a love for this brand and I couldn’t be happier! Besides these, there was a blow dryer, Iron and Ironing table inside the wardrobe along with a locker.
We took some rest the evening we arrived and ordered our dinner in the room and slept early. The next morning when we woke up it was raining! It was beautiful outside! We had our breakfast that was a buffet and with a variety of options. The food was good but didn’t really like the tea or the coffee. We then left to see a few places that were famous, primarily those that I really wanted to see. I wanted to see the monasteries, the Dalai Lama Temple and the St. John Church in the wilderness.
For my outfit, I wore a tee and a thick cotton jacket both from Woodlands paired with my Forever 21 denim jeans and tan wedge boots again from Woodlands! It was Christmas that day and we never realized that taking our own car would be a mistake. The area around the church was too crowded and had a long traffic jam. The roads are narrow and a lot of tourists parked their cars on the road which made the movement really difficult. The local police were really managing well, however, when we couldn’t find ant place to park the car (read the parking was full), we headed back to the hotel and took an auto to the Monastery and Temple. We skipped the church as it was Christmas and overly crowded, we decided to come back the next morning.
There was a monastery in the main market which was amazingly beautiful and I had the experience of rolling the drums around and inside it! I don’t know what those drums are called and I didn’t even ask anyone. We then visited the Dalai Lama temple which had a life-sized statue of Lord Buddha. It wasn’t too amazing except for the statue. We then enjoyed the Tibetan market and I shopped a few items from there and enjoyed some local street food as well. I think the best was the chicken which was being cooked fresh. Apart from chicken, there was fish as well. We could also spot snow capped mountains from the market. They looked like as if they were really close! It was dark after some time and we headed back to the hotel to enjoy the Christmas dinner buffet. There was live music and the menu was Christmas special. It had turkey, plum cake and much more! One unique recipe was the Chukander ka Halwa (Beetroot Halwa). It tasted exactly like Gajar ka Halwa! It was super yum, though I was getting a hint of beetroot, like an aftertaste, but not too strong. I really enjoyed that!
The next morning I woke up early to see the sunrise, however, the sun was blocked behind the hotel building, but I still witnessed the beautiful changing colours of the sky! Later we had our breakfast and checked out for our next destination. Just when we drove out of the hotel, huge snow capped mountains were right ahead and this was the first time I ever saw them from this close!! Loved every moment of my stay at the Fortune park Moksha! Beautiful hotel and extremely helpful and courteous staff! We were off to the next destination which I am going to cover in my next post!! Stay tuned! 😀 In the mean while do enjoy the pictures below and the travel vlog attached at the bottom of the post which covers the road trip from Gurgaon to McLeodganj.
