This year Jabong joined hands with Danish sportswear brand hummel® for ‘Jabong Turf War Season II’ organized by AVS (IP Owner). The second edition of Jabong’s five-a-side football tournament to feature a fashion show sponsored by GAS, rock band performances, award winning DJs and VJs, TV celebrities, fashion and styling tips, quizzes and competitions for campus youth.

16 college teams, 10,000 spectators participated at the two-day campus tournament held at Greater Noida’s G.L. Bajaj Institute of Technology and Management (GLBITM)

India’s leading online fashion e-tailer, Jabong kicked off the second edition of the campus tournament through Jabong Turf War. 16 colleges in Delhi-NCR such as Amity, Sharda University, Greater Noida Institute of Technology and so on, competed in front of a 10, 000-strong youth audience at the G.L. Bajaj Institute of Technology and Management (GLBITM), Greater Noida, on 27th and 28th January, 2017. Apart from the Jabong Turf War trophy, the winning team was also to receive a cash prize of Rs. 25k while the player of the tournament was to receive Rs. 10k sponsored by Jabong.

In this format, each team fields four outfield players and a goalkeeper in five-a-side football. With relatively smaller pitch, goalposts and a reduced duration, the game is much more fast-paced and action oriented, where every minute counts. The field is enclosed within a barrier or “cage” to prevent the ball from leaving the playing area and keep the game flowing.

The Jabong Turf War Season II was supported by many partners including Panasonic, Crowne Plaza, Oyo, Jawed Habib, YFC, Chai Point, Magic Bus, Rite Bite, Eco Wise and others.

On the final day, Sharda University emerged as the Champions of the Jabong Turf War Season II, picking up the Jabong Turf War trophy and a cash prize of INR 25,000. They beat Greater Noida Institute of technology by ten goals to zero in the finals. More than 15 colleges from Delhi NCR participated in the 5×5 campus football tournament held at GL Bajaj Institute of Technology and Management. Anupam Vishwarma from Sharda University won the Player of the Tournament Award and received a cash prize of INR 10000.

Jabong Turf War enthralled the audience with live performances by the rock band Swarrveda and award-winning DJ Varun Dayal. The event was hosted by MTV VJs Benafsha & Clince Verghese with celebrities such as the British film actress, singer, model, TV presenter and former MTV VJ Sophie Choudhry, and past contestants from the hit reality TV Shows MTV Roadies and Splitsvilla, Martina Thariyan and Shreeradhe Khanduja in attendance.

The event also featured a fashion show sponsored by global premium apparel and denim brand GAS which provided the participants a chance to win a pair of GAS jeans and other prizes every hour engaged the audience through emcee games and quizzes.

Held over two days, the tournament captivated the audience with some exceptional cultural performances including rock band Swarrveda and award-winning DJ Varun Dayal. The energy was of the audience was amazing!! I could feel myself as a college kid all over again! I really wanted to be one at that time! Well, I danced to the tunes of the DJ there anyway! There were some awesome music and amazing dance performances! The finale couldn’t have been any better! The lightings around also made the aura really great! It was like an open-air mega party!
