The Body Shop has recently launched their new Day Cream from the Drops of Youth range which has an interesting concept. According to the brand they extracted stem cells from 3 resilient plants known for their exceptional renewing & restructuring properties. Using a bio-technical process, they preserve their potency whilst respecting the plants. And why is the range called Drops of Youth they say – “We haven’t found the fountain of youth but we might have found a few drops of it.” Nice! Right?
Apparently this happens to be the part of their new commitment Enrich Not Exploit, they have pledged to enrich our planet. As per the brand – ‘adhering to this practice, in order to produce a continuous supply of stem cells we only use a small sample of the plant so no plant is harmed in the process.’
I have been trying this day cream for more than 2 weeks now and I have my thoughts to share! Let’s get started!
About The Looks!
The Body Shop nails the packaging every time! I really love their packaging generally. This particular cream comes in a green colored glass jar with a black matte finish cap on it. Their is an extra plastic lid on top of the cream which prevents the cream to get on the under side of the main lid or may be even leakage. The jar is packed in a white box which has the name of the brand, product, ingredients, quantity, etc mentioned on. I really like the packaging! It feels luxurious and is very good quality. It is a bit heavy though but I don’t mind that. 🙂

A little bit of science behind the product!
“Plant stem cells are the source of a plant’s vitality. These stem cells never go through the ageing process other cells do. Instead, they constantly regenerate themselves and create all the specific cells the plant needs elsewhere” Jennifer Hirsch
Using stem cell technology gives access to potent active ingredients from extremophile plants (varieties that have adapted to survive). The benefit of this technology is that only a small sample of the plant is required to produce a continuous supply of the stem cells. The three plants whose stem cells have been extracted are –
- EDELWEISS (Leontopodium Alpinum) Known for its protective properties. FROM THE HIGH ALPINE MOUNTAINS OF TRENTINO-ALTO, ITALY
- SEA HOLLY (Eryngium Maritimum) Known for its firming properties. FROM THE SANDY SHORES OF SOUTH BRITTANY, FRANCE
- CRISTE MARINE Crithmum Maritimum Known for being a skin‐renewing champion. FROM THE ROCKY COASTLINE OF NORTH BRITTANY, FRANCE
My thoughts and experience with the Drops of Youth Day Cream!
When you first look at the product it looks a amalgamation of gel and cream. It doesn’t look heavy, in other words. When you touch it or scoop some of it out, then you realize it is more of gel and less of cream. Well, after that the story changes again! You apply it on your face and massage it, you will feel the texture of the cream becoming satiny and velvety or slightly creamy! Its NOT greasy type creamy. It is a very light gel based cream which gives a satiny or velvety finish when you apply it on your face. Spreads very easily and evenly and you don’t need too much, just a small amount is enough!
Almost all The Body Shop products smell amazing and that is one of the major reasons I go back to the brand! It gives a very rich and aromatic experience with their products. This one smells very nice, though its not very strong or even equivalent to the other The Body Shop products, its light yet very fresh and pleasant to the senses!! You can smell your fingers with that scent for a good long time or until you wash them!
The cream certainly does a great job hydrating and nourishing the skin well enough that it looks much fresh and youthful than before. With regular use of the cream the dullness of the skin goes away and it looks better with time. It suits my combination skin pretty well and doesn’t clog my pores. i am sure it will suit all skin types as it is light enough for combination to oily skin and hydrating enough for normal to dry skin. I would recommend this cream for girls in their 20s or early 30s, it would be the right time to start using this cream to keep it youthful for a long time! 🙂
